A Debate For The Century

IT was 1999, we had the world on our shoulders, a vitality to deconstruct to dedevelop to speak poetry in foreign policy forums, a filled one hitter of choice green on the campus of the University of Texas, we had played the UIL to a fiddle, and the friendships that had started a year before in writing the FUK-O file met again to debate at the UIL 5a State finals for Cross Examination Debate. From Georgetown Texas, the hometown kids, S.J. Anderson and Loren Dent represented the affirmative Resolved: That the United States should substantially change its foreign policy towards Russia. On the Negative from Deer Park Texas was Hung Nguyen and 3rd best speaker award winner James Browning Kepple. Approached by the greasy UIL producers we were informed that we were not supposed to "Spread". We had no idea what spreading was, so we figured to just be natural. Ben Durham is also the time keeper in the round. The Affirmatives case is about protecting Trees in Eskimo Graveyards. The Negatives position is supporting the work of William V. Spanos in stating that US involvement in any way in another country will inevitably break down and cause death. The Result of this debate was a 2-1 decison for Georgetown, now, after the tape had been transported state for state in an old igloo ice chest, full digital remaster by S. J. Anderson brings this debate to youtube.
